Leslie Nielsen dies at 84

Sad news tonight as I have to announce that Canadian Actor Leslie Nielsen has passed away after complications with pneumonia. He was 84 years old.
The National Post reports:

Veteran comedian and actor Leslie Nielsen has died in a Florida hospital, his family confirmed to Global News on Sunday evening. The Canadian actor was 84. Nielsen rose to fame with roles in the Airplane and Naked Gun film franchises. He had apparently been suffering from pneumonia for more than a week.
The man had a full and satisfying career, and will always be remembered as the witless hero of the Naked Gun films from an era where Spoof Movies were classy and clever entertainment sources instead of the sad excuse for spoof films in more recent history. Sadly his popularity in those great spoof films extended into the current run as he played an Uncle Ben like character in Superhero Movie. He did not care if the genre was not so succesful anymore, he just loved it.
Naked Gun 4: Rhythm of Evil was in early pre-production and Nielsen was expected to reprise his role. I would have hoped it could represent the return of truly clever spoof movies.
Nielsen will be missed, and one of the greatesst has moved on.

R.I.P. Leslie Nielsen. I watched The Naked Gun when I was a young kid and you we're my favourite actor. Your movies are timeless. I'm still laughing and really enjoying every second. Farewell Shirley.
Movie Monstrosity Blog will change into a Leslie Nielsen Tribute Blog for this Week.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

It was rumoured that Mark Wahlberg would take the lead role in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and nerdrage on fan forums errupted with disapproval, but before they could turn off their Playstations, the rumour rang true and today he is announced as signed to the role.
Mark Wahlberg has accepted the role of Nathan Drake in the video game adaptation/action film Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune .
We reported here that David O. Russell would be directing the movie, which immediately led to speculation that Wahlberg would be joining him, since the pair recently collaborated on The Fighter.
I think Wahlberg will do great in Uncharted. He has the presence and demeanor of a comat savvy treasure hunting adventurer that will make for a fun film.
Of course it is a video game movie, and we are trained to anticipate they will suck. However something like Drake’s Fortune can be more like a modern Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, and they can build the movie story around a character concept, and with a good script it will just be a fun adventure film and shake the stigma of a video game adaptation.
What do you think of Wahlberg in the role?

Alright, time to rock

I like to dream yes, yes, right between my sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
You don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
And so I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well, someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well, you don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

Official Green Lantern Trailer Online

With all the fear that they would snark up Green Lantern and make it into Deadpool with a GL Ring.
But the full trailer has officially launched and we have it here for you today!

Not kidding.

Ok, this looks a LOT better than that teaser we saw late last week. The moments where he is cocky don’t come off as sarcastic and snarky like he usually is in comedies. Clearly they are going for the kind of light comedy like Iron Man had, but not goofball.
Love the visuals, and love the costume (though his eyepiece does look a tiny bit too prounounced) and I am relieved to see a less Deadpool Reynolds in this.
And remember kids, if you don’t like this… you will love it considering this role once was in the hands of Jack Black.
Not kidding.

Oh right, and sorry for the inactivity. Hopefully i haven't lost some fans! We are getting close to a 100 followers so, thumbs up for a special!

Cowboys & Aliens

I have been waiting a while for a look at Cowboys and Aliens, the big screen adaptation of the sci-fi meets wild west comic book.

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella , he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

There is also a Countdown gadget thingy that will keep tabs on how long before we see a trailer for this:

Dude, you are going to miss me

Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be on a business trip to refresh my writing energy. I will be gone for a few days until Sunday. So, i will leave you alone here, on the cold harsh invention that's called Internet. But I won't leave without one kick ass song! Gents , i see you Sunday! I love you all!

Kung Fu Panda Teaser

Kung Fu Panda was a very entertaining and quite hilarious CGI film that centred around a fat panda named Po who is chosen as the famous Dragon Warrior over his absolute idols the Legendary Furious Five. Being a huge fan of Kung Fu doesn’t change the fact that he has no experience at all which sends the chubby panda on a path of self-awareness.
I am really happy they are making a second film, I just wish Finding Nemo would get a sequel! Any way the teaser doesn’t give away anything about the actual films plot but it’s still a joy to watch.
Enjoy!

The Lion is Dead....Love Live The Lion!

Its hardly news that MGM has been facing financial
difficulties and that its missed its last few creditor payments. I also hear they are doing paperwork by candlelight and have no heat.

So it was announced that MGM has officially declared Chapter 11, Protection from bankruptcy to give them 30 days to sort out their crap.

"The company, which was pressured into filing by investor Carl Icahn, is seeking a 30-day reorganization period in which to pay its creditors.

As part of the reorganization, Spyglass Entertainment will take over management of MGM."

Spyglass has its foot in the door here, and will likely strike deals with the creditors with the anticipation of The Hobbit and the potential of another Bond film.

That and there is always a healthy library of minor films in that could fetch a pretty penny if they are willing to part with them for other studios to re-distribute or remake. Those rights have to be worth a few bucks right?

I think MGM’s days are numbered, and what will be left is going to be a studio bidding war for the rights to the properties that still mean anything.

No word on if or how this might affect the current Hobbit production, already in the works.

I'm going to miss the lion. Rest in Peace, Leo The Lion.

Ooh, at Las Vegas? gotta check it out on Fallout: New Vegas. Maybe it's also in there!

New Sucker Punch Trailer Online

Another trailer for the much anticipated Sucker Punch is online and its even better than the first one.

This adds another layer of depth that I wanted to see in this film – the Reality side of things before it gets all surreal. And even the “real” part of the film will have some stylzing going on.
And its all HOT. The super stylized look at this is jaw dropping.
I can’t wait.

America! your First Avenger will soon be here, and its not a black president

Captain America The First Avenger has been in production for a while now, and outside of some set shots we are only getting snippets of information about the movie.
But now some more details are being shared that include information about the costume, the plot and some behind the scenes trivia!

Some Details:

- Chris Evans apparently didn’t want to sign a nine movie contract with Marvel, which included three Captain America films, three The Avengers films, and 3 appearances in other movies. Word is 3 of those were removed, and it’s likely the latter three. I’m willing to bet he didn’t want to commmit to three minor appearances, to keep his schedule free for other roles than Captain America. I wouldn’t rule him out of the three appearances, they’ll just be more on his terms. - Evans had to bulk up for Captain America, but directer Joe Johnston wants shots of him as a “scrawny soldier.” To accomplish this, they plan on using camera angles, costumes to make him seem smaller, and special effects. Hopefully they do this part right, and not make Evans look cartoonish when trying to make him look thin.
- When the film is released in other countries, it will just be called The First Avenger, dropping the Captain America part of the name. Think the distributors are worried about lost ticket sales to the world’s view of America? Can’t think of any other reasons for this case.
- Marvel was considering making this a movie that jumps between the past and the present, but decided to keep the story based on WWII. This will likely hold better for the origin story piece, but to set up The Avengers, they’ll be using the ol’ “frozen in ice” storyline.
- The plot centers around Captain America leading a team of elite soliders known as the Howling Commandos as they go after the Red Skull and the Cosmic Cube.
- For the comic purists, the classic costume with the wings on the head will be in the movie. They have Captain America wearing it when they’re using him as a propaganda piece, but he hates it and ends up visiting Howard Stark. Stark helps him build the new suit that he’ll wear through most of the movie.
